PAS Selangor along with PAS Klang is dismayed and extremely disappointed by the Federal Governments lackadaisical attitude and non difference towards ensuring the safety of the people using the main federal roads in Port Klang. The condition of the Federal roads leading towards North Port (including southpoint) and West Port, specifically highway 180, 181 and 103, is deplorable. The roads are riddled with potholes, uneven surfaces, slipshod patchwork and dangerous bumps. Furthermore, the lights in critical off ramps and on ramps, including curves are not working.
Northport and Westport employ more than 10,000 workers combined and most of the users of these federal roads are these workers, on motorcycles and small motor vehicles. Amirudin Hamidah died in an accident in Pulau Indah while on his way to work two weeks ago. He was a committed member of the mosque and now leaves behind five schooling children and a stay at home mother. He died at the young age of 40. The untimely death of Amirudin Hamidah is a stark and sad reminder of the Federal Government’s efforts in securing and implementing safety measures in these roads.
The failure of a government can be measured by their delivery system. The Barisan Nasional Government must fix its failures. The must:
1. Fix the entire stretch of road (highways 180, 181 and 103) – eliminating potholes, shoddy patchwork 2. Upgrading the load of the roads to support heavy vehicles 3. Ensuring sufficient lighting 4. Ensuring complaints to JKR is addressed within 6 hours
PAS Selangor challenges Barisan Nasional to allocate budget, implement and build safe passageways for motorcycles travelling to and from the ports. Anything short of this is a failure of Barisan Nasional.
