Satu keluarga di Bagan Serai, Perak, Malaysia (gambar di atas) dijuluki keluarga "kaleng sarden." Sebanyak 26 orang anggota keluarga itu tinggal berdesak-desakan dalam sebuah rumah dengan dua kamar.
Pemilik rumah Aspalela Zan (42) dan suaminya Azmi Saari (32) tinggal bersama 11 anak mereka, tiga menantu serta tiga cucu dan seorang adik ipar beserta enam anak saudara di rumah tersebut, demikian dilaporkan harian Metro, Sabtu (25/5).
Aspalela mengatakan mereka tinggal bersama di rumah itu sejak enam tahun lalu karena tidak mampu menyewa rumah lain.
"Suami dan tiga menantu hanya kerja kampung dan pendapatan pas-pasan. Masalah ini juga membuat anak saya tidak ada yang melanjutkan sekolah," katanya.
Semua anak Aspalela hanya bersekolah hingga kelas tiga SD.
Adik ipar Aspalela, Norhidayu Rosli (23) mengatakan suaminya yang bekerja sebagai buruh di Sabah kadangkala mengirimkan uang belanja untuk membantu meringankan beban keluarga.
"Saya tetap bersyukur karena masih mempunyai tempat berteduh walaupun kami harus tidur berhimpitan hingga ke bagian dapur," katanya. (IH/M)
